RoHS, Lead-Free (Pb) and Green Overview
Environmental concerns are having a tremendous impact on how electronic component and system suppliers manufacture their products today. As a result, our customers face government guidelines that require their products to be lead-free (Pb), Green and compliant with the Restrictions on the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. On July 1, 2006, the RoHS Directive began prohibiting the sale of electronic components and systems containing more than the designated maximum allowable levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants in Europe.
In order to support our customers' system compliancy requirements and contribute to the global improvement of our environment, PLX offers our solutions in standard, lead-free, Green and RoHS compliant packaging. For a complete listing of part numbers, please reference the part number listing in each product tool box.
Lead-Free, Green, and RoHS Definitions
Following each PLX product part number is a letter or combination of letters which identify the device's Lead-free, RoHS or Green status. There are three main definitions that follow the standard part number:
- G - Defines Lead-free, RoHS Compliant and Fully Green
(Example: PCI 9056-BA66BI G; note the space between the BI and G)
- F - Defines Lead-free, RoHS Compliant
(Example: PCI 9054-AC 50PI F; note the space between the PI and F)
- LF - Defines Lead-free and RoHS Compliant for our family of USB devices
(Example: NET2272REV1A-LF; Note the dash (-) between "1A" and "LF")
As a strong proponent of lead-free, Green and RoHS compliancy, PLX is committed to offering these packaging options for all of our products developed today and in the future. We want our customers to be successful in the global marketplace. PLX understands the importance of addressing our customers' requirements and the global environmental impact this can have. In fact, PLX began offering products with lead-free, Green and RoHS compliant packaging in early 2004. And, PLX will continue to offer standard, lead-free, Green and RoHS packaging options for all future products as well.
