PLX Launches Industry's Highest Port-Count PCI Express Switches for Communications Market
A key feature of the PEX 8625 and PEX 8636 is the ability to multicast, which increases the efficiency in communications platforms as it allows each host to communicate to all endpoints at the same time. Another leading attribute of the new switches is the multi-host feature. Multi-host switches provide multiple upstream ports to connect to several CPUs, thereby reducing the number of system components and minimizing latency.

The new PLX 
The new PLX OXUFS946DSE is the industry's lowest-power (391mW), highest-performance dual-storage controller that bridges two SATA hard disks with eSATA, FireWire800 or USB 2.0 serial interfaces. System designers' interest in virtualization continues to grow. The industry in general sees the need for virtual systems and understands the advantages: lower overall cost of a data center through reducing the number of I/O devices, resulting in higher efficiency and lower power and cost.
Traditional PCI Express (PCIe) systems have relied only on unicast packets. This made sense as there was only one host at any given time and most of the communication was host-centric, i.e. the host communicated with all the endpoints one at a time. Few applications had peer-to-peer communication, but this communication was also routed through the host due to limitations in some vendors' PCIe switches.
